Skyline Rescue by climbers

General Palm Springs area.

That's funny that you still carry those. Did you use duct tape to seal up the top? Ghetto stuff is hilarious. Some people take appearances so seriously without ever stopping to think about what really matters.

I meant bread bags, not sandwich bags. It's important to know your bags.

I've personally only used produce bags, but I like the bread bag concept--more ergonomic :D! And duct tape for sure. I mean really, where would we be without it?

And speaking of ghetto gear, I saw a guy heading up Baldy Bowl a few weeks ago with an ice axe that you don't see everyday: a piece of EMT (steel tubing) with a 90 degree bend at the top for a handle. Prolly he was an electrician?

Did he cut the end at an angle to make a sharp point? :D

It would be funny to have a climbing company called "Ghetto Gear" with really cheap stuff. A reliable "ice axe" might be heavy as hell if it's made from mild steel, but it would be dirt cheap and still save your ass on the mountain.

Wikipedia has an interesting paragraph on Snow (under Technique) and the gear you need. Click on the hyperlinks for Crampons, Snowshoes and Ice Axe (in blue)

And yes, Skyline is a lot of fun with snow. Think about it: you pass cactus plants and yuccas, maybe see a rattlesnake in the spring time, and then later on it's a totally different world.[/quote]
