RMRU Website Defunct?

General Palm Springs area.

"Hasty" search and rescue. Limited funding from the state, only a handful of people, no helicopter. But during the daytime the response time is faster than RMRU because they are already on the mountain.

Gotcha. That makes sense from what I've observed over time.

A few (very few) of the employees and volunteers are trained to do high-angle scree/snow/ice evacuations, but RMRU has more people specialized in that.

The SAR operations I have run across have been much bigger operations than the local rangers can handle. They depend on volunteers, often lots of them, from groups like RMRU. It is not a question of who gets credit, There are simply not enough rangers to handle a sizable search, not to mention the lack of helicopters, etc. Even a small operation I saw near the Baldy Ski Hut last year involved several agencies, a helicopter, fire trucks and ambulances, etc. Ant that was to get one heart attack victim out of the woods.
