What is your favorite route to the summit?

As much as I don't like a public area being closed, I can't argue with the fact that it's more pristine than other areas of heavy foot-traffic. It's disappointing to see the way people treat Long Valley, or even worse, the open areas near Desert Hot Springs. But Snow Creek...that's a real treat. Most of the climbers have respect for the mountain, despite not following the strict letter of the law.

I got a reply, well sort of one from Mike.
I asked several questions and included a map of the area.
Where exactly the closed area is. and if it is illegal to walk just outside that area.
and what happens if people relieve themselves just above or outside that area, south of area 33 etc.

You are correct. DWA owns Section 33. You can also hike up to the paved road to the PCT. Beyond that, the road is marked No Trespassing. It is closed off to safegard the water supply, yes.

funny how people walking on their own two feet are considered an environmental threat, yet an asphalt road made for vehicles to drive on and buildings in which people live/work is ok. kind of like the deep canyon research center. it's ok to cage bighorn and use helicopters to 'help' them yet feet upon the land are detrimental to the environment.
