RMRU Website Defunct?

Postby Hikin_Jim » Thu Dec 18, 2008 10:39 am

I went to the RMRU website today and got some weird advertising. It looks like they lost their website (contract expired?). Is the RMRU website defunct? Is RMRU in trouble?

Jim, calm down. Take a breath. RMRU is definitely NOT in trouble.

Admittedly, the website is odd but I'm sure the tech-geeks will get the good ol' website back up eventually (maybe before Obama is inaugurated... maybe not...)

FYI, there haven't been many (if any) missions recently. Let's keep it that way!!

Happy hiking everyone!

OK, phew.

Perhaps "odd" is a bit of an understatement. Only the home page opens, and it calls itself "AllDataTech.com". Almost all of the sub pages (links) within RMRU.org are just plain gone. You don't even get a "404 Not Found" message. Those links that remain pertain to AllDataTech.com not RMRU. Is AllDataTech.com your server provider?

I've (gladly) never needed the RMRU's services, and they seem to cover a wide area... but I thought that Mt. SanJ was covered by the forestry service or the rangers for rescues? no? :?:

No. :)

The rangers, state or federal (depending on where you are), will do what they can, but there is no designated/trained search and rescue team within either organization. The RMRU volunteers are it.

AHA! I was always wondering what the general impression is and what all the hoopla is about the RMRU. You've solved a big puzzle for me and helped clarify the big question.
The (obviously "little known") fact is that San Jacinto does have a SAR team and the rangers there do train as much as if not more than the RMRU. Even when the RMRU gets called, the SJ Rangers have control of the event. Last year, statistically the SJ team had more calls than the average Fire Station emt unit, due to the amount of tourists they get. I know both groups, and some members of one are on the other team, etc. I've always wondered why RMRU gets all the credit???? When asked, the SJ team always laughed that RMRU has a better "press agent", and besides, who cares who gets the credit when someone's life is involved. RMRU also has deeper pockets (i.e. $$$). Nothing against them, but I always wondered why everyone discounted the involvement of the rangers and offered blessing upon the RMRU.
Thanks for the answer (ie. 'public opinion' favors the squeaky wheel).
Mike :D
Incidentally... does anyone want the SJ emergency response phone #?

Really? SJ State Park has a SAR team? I've never heard of it. Or do you just mean that the rangers receive some SAR training?
