Uploading High-Resolution Photos

Postby Perry » Wed Nov 21, 2007 12:30 am

Here is an easy way to upload high resolution photos. Just post a bogus message in the General Chat section of PS Arts:

You can use a topic like, "Photo for Hiking Forum" and click on the upload attachment feature. Then all you have to do is link to the photo from this forum. It will take very high resolution files. Please don't upload a hundred photos. :-)

Here is an example:

I was going to upgrade the board to phpBB3, but I see it's still in the experimental stage right now with frequent updates, so I don't want to risk ruining an active message board. One of Murphy's Laws says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" However, the photo upload feature is missing from this board. Yes, there is a mod for phpBB2, but it involves manually editing database files, and it's complicated by the fact that this board has the "cats and cars" mod, meaning I would have to go through the code and manually edit the php files (not fun) to make sure the existing mod is not overwritten. Maybe I'll get around to it...

Wow...Great photo and you're right about the file size. I don't think I have ever been on a site that allowed uploads that huge. Thanks for another first Perry!

Thanks! It's definitely not perfect as there's a lot of ISO noise in the sky, and I quickly photostitched two images with different exposures using an automated tool, hence that diagonal line.

I'm going to do some more reading and ask questions about whether phpBB3 RC7 is good for a live board... With a photo upload feature it could bring a whole new meaning to posts about trail conditions and views. These quarter-megapixel shots on the Internet really don't do justice to photos. And with a 1200x1600 screen....
