Anyone ever read this book? It's a great story about a boy growing up in 19th century southern California and his trials and tribulations in the desert. The San Jacinto Mountains feature prominently in the book, and the author even references a mystical "Tahquitz" character. Fabulous read and neat to picture the areas he's talking about before they became part of a large metropolitan area.

I did read it! A long time ago. I might still have a copy someplace.
