Does anyone know whether the highways leading to the trail head of Iron Mountain #1 are open? This mountain and the trail are described in the Hundred Peaks Section of the Sierra Club in the following page:

Unixzw, when are you attempting that hike?

I've been considering it for some time and would like to go before the full summer heat hits.

Let me know if you get a good answer on the message board or privately.

You can reach me directly at pmoran1@earthlink.net

Thanks

I called the SG River ranger station today. I was told that all the roads (East Fork Rd and Glendora Mt Rd) are open. The trail head for Iron Mt #1 is fully accessible.

The short answer is that you can get to the trailhead at Heaton Flats via Highway 39.

The San Gabriel Mountains message board has lots of information on Iron Mountain, as does this one.

There have been cars vandalized (I've never had mine messed with, thank God) at the Heaton Flats TH. Maybe bring an old car if you've got one?
