The obvious advantages are beating the heat. How else would you see a pygmy owl living in a hole in the cactus and other small critters.

Not to long ago it looked (and sounded) like that during the full moon in my backyard. Just when I thought all the development around my place has destroyed the wildlife habitat I found a 6 foot golfer snake in my planter today.
