Winday day on Baldy

Postby pfinley » Mon Mar 03, 2008 2:04 pm

Anyone else head up to Baldy on Sunday? Wow, what a day. The ridgeline had windspeeds of 86 mph and the summit was clocked at 94. It was quite an experience. I never made it past 9400 feet but was an amazing day nonetheless.

I didn't bring my camera up there, was anyone there with a camera that wouldn't mind sharing a few pics?

There was snow from about 7k on up to the hut, then the bowl still has plenty of snow.

Thanks

It was windy over on San Jacinto too. Thought I might get blown off the mountain a few times.

The wind was nasty even by the Manker Flat trailhead. A few of us were practicing self arrests in a wash near the road, and we got blown over a few times while setting up on slick slopes. I think it actually helped us having a couple of unplanned falls! One gal lost a glove to a gust, and had to climb down a couple hundred feet to find it.

I can imagine how wild it must have been on the ridges.

Here's a clip from an ill-fated tip to telescope a couple of years ago.

Live it up,
