Howdy All
Sister Sally and Miracle Marilyn are in Iceland hiking and touring. On Labor Day, I leave from Happy Isles and head south on the JMT. My itinerary (16 days) is:
Day 1 (9/2) – Camp after Sunrise (15 miles)
Day 2 (9/3) – Evelyn lakes junction (29.5 miles)
Day 3 (9/4) – Garnett lakes junction (45.3 miles)
Day 4 (9/5) – Reds Meadows (58.7 miles) Food pick-up
Day 5 (9/6) – Virginia lake (74.6 miles)
Day 6 (9/7) – Edison junction (87.6 miles)
Day 7 (9/8) – Camp after going over Seldon pass (103 miles)
Day 8 (9/9) – Evolution meadow (115 miles). Food pick up at Muir Ranch
Day 9 (9/10) – Stars camp (131.5 miles)
Day 10 (9/11) – Deer meadow creek crossing (143 miles)
Day 11 (9/12) – Main South Fork crossing (155 miles)
Day 12 (9/13) – Woods creek junction (167 miles)
Day 13 (9/14) – Charlotte lake junction (177.6 miles).
Day 14 (9/15) – Shepherd pass junction (192)
Day 15 (9/16) – Artic lake outlet (203)
Day 16 (9/17) – Whitney Portal (218)
My last two JMT trips took several days longer, so I expect this trip will be closer to 17 days. Friends are hiking in to resupply me at Charlotte lake -- I'll be there by September 15 at the latest.
On a sad note, I sent my beloved Sheltie Callie over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday morning. She started having problems last Thursday. Took her to the vet on Thursday and Saturday. On Monday, I left her with the vet for blood work. The horrible phone call no vet wants to make and no fur parent wants to hear -- your dog is dying (kidney and liver failure). Kept her hospitalized with catheter hydration to see if that helped (treatment similar to dialysis) for two days -- she continued to deteriorate and I didn't want her to suffer any longer.
Packing for the JMT is a good distraction and I look forward to finding solace in the Sierra.
From the heart,
Ellen
