Another hiker lost in Joshua Tree, not sure if he has been located yet...

"A 76-year-old hiker, who left a note asking authorities to look for him if he didn't return at a specific time, is now the subject of a search underway at Joshua Tree National Park.

David Sewell's vehicle was discovered about 8 p.m. Saturday in the Quail Springs parking lot, according to a park news release. Inside his Honda Odyssey was a note that he was beginning his hike about 8:45 a.m. Saturday and he would need help if he didn't return by Sunday.

Sewell is described as legally blind Joshua Tree man with numerous health issues.

According to park officials, Sewell may have been headed to an unspecified location in Johnny Lang Canyon."

It sounds like this guy did not intend to return.

Yes, I have no idea right now... am waiting for any further information to be posted or hopefully that he is found alive and well within the next few days! It's definitely in the mid 80s around there, so I hope he had enough water with him

David Sewell had parked his car on the Quail Springs parking lot on Saturday and left a note asking to send help if he did not return by Sunday.

Sewell was described as legally blind and suffering from a number of health issues, which raised additional concerns for his well-being among searchers.

Despite spending an especially hot three days in the park, Sewell was conscious and talking when search crews made contact with him. He was airlifted to Hi Desert Medical for evaluation."

I am glad that he was found OK, but it is poor practice to rely on a note in your car. A vehicle could sit there for days before anyone investigated. Better to have friends or family ready to call authorities if you don't return by a specified time.
