So many incidents lately: Garstin,Skyline, San Jacinto and the Kern. So many people in trouble, going so far beyond the limits of their skills and bodies.

I am afraid that people are increasingly shocked to discover limits. Sometimes it seems like doubt about limits even survives failures and rescues.

From the description of him in the article, it sounds like he was very competent and knew his abilities and limits as well as the best of any of us. It sounds like he lived fully and with heart. He would have been good to know as a friend. He died in a great place on a mountain.
