What is the most recent anyone has done Baldy? Is the Ski Hut trail clear of ice and snow.? Heard it was.

I did a Baldy loop last Saturday. I posted a TR on the San Gabriel board. Kathy is right -- there are other recent reports there as well.

We carried crampons but never got close to using them. Conditions are changing daily, of course, and there has been plenty of precipitation (LA is actually above its seasonal average! :D) this week. But crampons were not needed last weekend on the Ski Hut or Bear Flat trails.

Definately needed for the northern routes:

Baldy - Jan 12, 2008

Postby gregp909 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:43 am

I went up the ski hut trail on Friday Jan 11th. There was snow from the Manker Flats trailhead all they way up. The snow condition was good, and all around the bowl after the hut including up on top the snow was still 3-4 feet deep. Used crampons and snowshoes depending on conditions. I uploaded a video to You Tube this morning so it should be available to view soon. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLCoJGZ9B7Q
