Heat Takes 4 Hikers So Far

NYT today reported four deaths of hikers in the heat wave so far. They died in Arizona.

Searching the internet for other reports, I found one on AZ Central reporting a personal trainer who died mountain biking in the heat. She was amply fit, but the heat was too much.

It was hotter in Palm Springs.

NYT reports that 130 people die from the heat in an average year. It does not say how many of those were hiking or doing other sports.

The rate seems to vary. In 1853 NYT reported a 188 deaths from a single heat wave in the NYC area. No hikers, I presume. No air conditioning either. The article lists the names of all who died. One must subscribe to see this article.
