I actually have one. It's kind of cool although it's a bit heavy. I haven't gotten around to writing it up. Too busy working (and hiking).

Kind of. To get a full charge on a phone, you'd have to charge it for, what, five hours? Six? So, you'd have to have a HOT fire for five or more hours to fully charge a phone. I emphasize the word HOT because if you let the fire die down a bit, it stops charging. You have to have the fire running pretty hot to get any charge.

Now, most of the time your phone wouldn't be fully discharged. I forget the real ratio, but lets say that 30 minutes of burning gives you enough charge for 20 minutes of talk time on your phone. That's worthwhile in my opinion. And if you were using your phone for occasional GPS use, 30 minutes of burning might give you, say, 5 or more GPS position fixes. That is also worthwhile in my opinion.

Alas, after I lost my full time job, I have to spend a lot of time hustling to get work. I used to spend time blogging knowing that I could count on steady work. Now that time is spent hitting the books and trying to figure out how I'm going to keep myself reasonably employed for the next 20 years (about when my daughter will be graduating, hopefully, from college).
