Sign notifying hikers about not disturbing the cairns along the Mount Langley Trail.

The NPS has spoken! Leave the cairns alone! Don't build any, and don't knock them down, either! :D

Amazingly it looks like a government agency actually has a good idea! It makes sense to me that they be used in a valuable, official way. While cairns don't bother me like they do halhiker and some others, I understand their point that they can be misleading, which could have bad results. Still, in their proper place (YTBD) I think these things can be remarkable:

Descending Mount Langley, with a giant cairn, Trail Peak, Olancha Peak, and Old Army Pass

I was mainly just trying to keep the kettle boiling with that last post. :) Mainly to torment the self-righteous cairn-kickers.

You would think that nobody in their right mind would want to go to the trouble of knocking down a cairn of THAT magnitude, and yet Sequoia Park felt the need to put up that sign. And they also felt the need to go to all that trouble building those humongous cairns. Those cairn-kickers really ARE a troublesome lot. :)

And those mega-cairns also stopped the equally-ornery and self-righteous cairn creators from bothering to make any new ones. Because, let's face it: Anything they had time to make would be utterly pathetic and useless in comparison. And yet the NPS still needed that sign to help dampen their incessant desire to create more idiotic little cairns.

Maybe we should all simply go back and re-read the title of this thread!

Interestingly, I've heard that the cairns on Langley don't mark the best route. Supposedly, the cairns lead one west where one has to slog through a lot of soft, loose sand/gravel. If one stays a bit more to the east, it's rockier with better footing although the downside is that you have to do some scrambling.
