Return to Dobbs
Howdy All
Headed up with the San Jacinto hiking club yesterday. Fearless Dan was once again our trip leader and wanted to learn the route up to Dobbs. The starting temperature was cool, so climbing out of Mill Creek was tolerable. After crossing Vivian creek, we made our way up the ridge -- I don't I've ever gone up the same way twice
We picked up pieces of pink tape all the way up to west Dobbs. Had a nice conversation with several folks about salt and carbohydrate -- I was happy to learn that my advice regarding salt had helped elminate cramping.
Took a fuel break at west Dobbs, then made our way up to the ridge trail below Jepson. Some folks bagged Jepson, the rest of us headed up to the summit.
Once at the summit, we ran into our friends Ed Nemeth and Bill Kirk who were on duty as volunteer rangers. It was absolutely perfect weather, so John Howell, Laurie Ann and I weren't in any hurry to descend. We stayed on the summit long enough to see another group of our San Jacinto meetup friends who'd come up from Momyer.
As usual, the descent down Vivian seems to take forever. At least this time, my braced wrist wasn't screaming bloody murder. I was also pleasently surprised by the weather -- it never became unbearably hot. It was disappointing to not see any lemon lillies in the forest before crossing Vivian creek. Chatted with a nice SAR woman from Forest Falls named Barbara as we walked from Mill creek to our cars. We both friends and fans of Forest Falls wildlife artist Lindsey Foggett who has a studio in town.
Last but not least, enjoyed a great meal at El Mexicanno before driving home. Happily, the Dobbs curse has now been sweated away
Miles of smiles,
Ellen
