"Officials say the men were wearing T-shirts and shorts, but had sweaters with them."

Shorts and T shirts? Not good. It's been pretty cold up there at night, and now even more so with the weather that's been coming through. And they got a late start? Again, not good.

Snow levels were low when I was there last week, but there's always a lot of snow on the switch backs on the east side.

I hope the snow just confused them and that they got of trail somehow and that they're now in the North Fork or something.

Interesting about how the media here in San Diego (I too live in Oceanside) are all labeling these men as "experienced." Sounds like they partied in their camp ground, slept in late, and decided to head up anyway. The reports here say they did not have extra provisions or gear for overnight stays.

I always think I over pack for my outings. When we went up from Humber to San J last weekend, I had food, layers of clothing, water filters, etc. Now I feel a bit validated to have lugged 17 pounds along with me.

And I'm a noob.

I've had some good old fashioned AMS symptoms similar to this while hiking San Gorgonio. But then again I felt this way after Cinco De Mayo

Either way, not a good place to be while on the mountain.

Sleeping late and carrying a light pack sounds like what I do all the time and I would consider myself experienced. And a T shirt and shorts are what I hike in most days so I hate to judge. But I always carry 3 ways to make a fire and an empty trash bag for emergencies (they can be used multiple ways) and a light shell in a very bright color.

My hope is they just took the wrong turn and will pop out in Whitewater. I also consider the possibility that one guy got hurt and the others are hunkering down with him waiting for rescuers. I don't want to consider the other possibilities at this time. Hopefully, they'll find them today.

The Big Bear Grizzly is reporting that the missing hikers have been found.

Yes, found between 10:30 and 11 this morning, appear to be in safe condition. According to one report they may have been more prepared than was originally announced, except for the clothing.

According to the ABC news report, the hikers stayed warm by doing "a lot of spooning".

One more reason for finding the most attractive hiking partner possible.
