If you haven't experienced the NYT multimedia article:

Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek

Do yourself a favor and take the time to experience it.

http://www.nytimes.com/projects/2012/snow-fall/#/?part=tunnel-creek

Not only is this a great piece of journalistic art, it is graphic description of how even "experts" can put themselves in situations where there are no second chances.

Two thumbs up, waaay up!

Best Wishes to all for a fabulous and safe New Year!

Highly recommended both for the way it was done and for the content itself.

Read the entire thing. Great report. Tragic, but well written.

The sad part is this is adjacent to a very popular mid sized local ski hill. (as noted in the article) and so its easy to see how folks might lose sight of the avalanche danger. More to the point....seeking safety in old growth monster trees seems totally safe and logical, but that strategy failed

It took me over an hour, but you are right; it is worth it.
