Interesting what's out there. I had to look up where the Orocopia Mountains are (basically on the other side of Interstate 10 from Joshua Tree NP).

What little I've explored of the Orocopia Mountains and the Mecca Hills, I think it's beautiful. I finally checked out one of the Grotto areas in Mecca Hills the other day - very interesting. Also really nice are the Chuckwalla Mountains east of Orocopia. As Hal said, 4WD and high clearance does help to get around in the Orocopia or Chuckwalla Mountains.
