I guess you'd have to include MSR's seperate Piezo for a fair weight comparison. From what I've seen, the Soto's (built in) igniter seems to be better than most, and they supposedly have an improved pressure regulator. Still, I wouldn't go on a winter trip without an alternate lighting means.
Hi, Dave,
At the bottom of my
Trail Report #2 there's a list of stoves and their respective weights.
As far as price, check around. MSRP for the Soto is $70, and MSRP for the MicroRocket is $60, but eBay etc. will have prices that vary. And there are always sales.
The ignition is nice on the Soto. The bad thing about the Soto in my mind is that at least in my admittedly subjective testing, pots weren't all that stable. I thought pots were more stable on the MicroRocket.
Also, the Soto doesn't fold up, so if you want to fit a canister of gas and a stove into a mug type pot, you'll have to get a bigger mug in order to use the Soto.
I've got all of these stoves if you ever want to take a look at them.
