It just calmly looked up and "bearly" acknowledged me. I was no longer running when it noticed me because it had been stomping around in the meadow and breaking branches.
I stumble all over the trails since I'm so busy looking for something to see. I may have to camp out on San G with honey poured on my tent to finally see an animal larger than a squirrel. Well maybe not. The last time I was wishing I would see something Mr. Rattler woke me up.
I've come across bears a number of times in the San Gorgonio Wilderness (one time I saw 3 together), but I don't think they can get across the 10 freeway to the San Jacintos. They sure are beautiful animals.
I have heard of bears in the San Jacintos but don't have any real info on it. What I heard is they go under the freeway somewhere near Snow Creek. I think a few years ago we had one in Palm Springs.
I've seen tons of bears in Yosemite and up by Shasta. In the evening and in the morning both places are crawling with them.
