I was reading this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/097009731X/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books which lead me to looking for a grand canyon forum. couldn't find one, but did find this:

Hey ludegirl,

I was wondering what had become of you. Congratulations on your new job, your new location, and your speedy hiking/running!

ya, im still around, mostly on the San G forum though. :D

and back on topic...its weird, but it is hard to find much info on the Canyon
even from people whove been out here a long time. Ive had to do a lot of hunting around to find even just maps with the trails i use on 'em. most of the park service peeps know NOTHING about the place. the forestry dept
is much better for info. they know stuffs! ha :D

Oh, I think they know plenty, but if they had it their way the only way to hike down would be on the bright angel trail. Check out that book I read at the beginning of this post, it tells about a lot of different trails.

excellent photos.
I read that book. The first time when my son was 12 and headed down for his first GC backpacking trip. I just keep thinking about boys peeing off cliff in the dark and was glad to see him come up the trail 2 days later. It is really quite fascinating reading.

No. I have lived and worked here for 3 months now. Right on the rim with all the other employees, they REALLY dont know. I have dinner with em all the time, and they tell me that they arnt taught much, they are just taught where to direct people to find the info and know touristy stuff. theyve never been able to answer my questions. They refer me to the forest service for obscure dirt-road maps, times and distances and records. and everything else thats actually to do with nature. the park employees mostly only know touristy stuff. the forest people know trail and access road and all the actual useful cool stuff. :D
