Anyone know what type of snake they are? Was wondering if same type but just different color

theyre red diamond rattlers. they come out in april and may for mating season.
and why are you done desert hiking for the summer?? Its just getting to actually feel desert-y!
I live here though, so I hike and trail-run out here every day, wether its 80 or 105. makes no difference, except in summer you want to stay completely covered so your skin isnt ruined...hat, nike dry fit pants and columbia long sleeve shirts with sunblock in em. and take frozen water bottles. its fine if youre used to the heat. ive done 15 to 20 mile hikes from palm desert to palm springs in july n august, not those start at 3am BS either,i dont get up that early! I usually start at 7 or 8 am n finishing by 3pm. I actually love hiking when its 100+ its pretty intense

Oh..And the rattlers go back to being nocturnal when it gets too hot for em (over 90 consistanly) I never see em after the end of june

I didn't see one today as I was running down a dirt road - he actually lunged at me out of the tall grass at the side of the road, even though I wasn't moving towards him and was at least 3 feet from the grass. I would never have noticed him, except for his murderous intent.

He is now an ex-rattler.

Thats pretty effed up if you did. Do you go around killing everything youre afraid of?

I have to agree, getting way too hot and encountering way too many snakes! I will be doing my last hike on the South Lykken trail tomorrow night after I see the last of my massage clients as everyone leaves for the summer, heading to cooler climates (lucky folks).

Loved my hiking this season. Did 450 miles since January. Lost 13 pounds and brought my blood levels down from 217 to 160. Not bad for a 53 year old.

To everyone I encountered while hiking this year, I do hope I see you on the trail come late Fall. And for those who took my business card, call me when your body aches from your summer hiking.

And I also vote YES for getting rid of the snotty snakes on the trail. Sorry, rudegirl.

Thats too funny, I go out MORE, and with my camera, when the snakes are out. I actually go looking for them

@ 93ludegirl, while I admire those of you who go far and fast, some of us like to go slow and not so far. I often feel a great accomplishment if I go less than a mile and take 6-8 hours to do it. In addition, I enjoy the mild winters in the desert and the mild summers on the mountain. Please enjoy the heat, while I'll just hang out and enjoy the views.
