Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be caught in an avalanche.

Norma - I also hope it never happens to you or any other of our intrepid hikers
The only real danger in Southern California is probably Snow Creek, Baldy Bowl and the steeper slopes of the San Bernadinos (edited thanks to Jim) Here is a thread from our board a year ago.

Cy,

There are a lot of avalanche zones in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

There are also some avalanche zones on the eastern side of the eastern high country of the San Gabriels (Pine Mountain to Cucamonga Peak and vicinity).

Most of the SJ's are pretty avvy free except the north side as you've already mentioned.

Have you all ever seen footage of Alaska avalanches on some of the bigger budget snowboard movies like that's it that's all? What a force of nature. Nothing to be reckoned with at all.
