Parking Question San Gorgonio

Postby Vnthali » Sun May 02, 2010 8:26 pm

Where can I park my car when hiking the Vivian Creek Trail? I'd like to be as close to the trailhead as possible. Thank-you in advance.

The trailhead parking lot comes to mind or am I missing something?

Howdy Tyrus,

I don't know if the Vivian Creek trailhead parking lot is open yet. You can park in the Big Falls parking lot which is slightly below the Vivian lot.

Make sure you have a current Wilderness Parking Pass (available at Mill Creek Ranger Station and Big 5 for $35) or you'll get a ticket

Ah, OK, I get it. I thought there might be something that I wasn't aware of.

Check out this map of the Vivian Creek trailhead. "A" is the parking for the Vivian Creek trailhead. "B" is the parking for the Big Falls trailhead. They're pretty close together. If there's no room at "A," then it's no big deal to park at "B."

From either one, walk upstream through the picnic area looking for where the trail crosses the creek. Once you're on the switchbacks, (ugh, steep) :( it's pretty obvious as to the route (when things are snow free).

Hellen and Jim thanks for the information. I do have my wilderness pass ready to post in the windshield. My tentative plan is to give this a go on the 17th or 18th. All goes as planned, we'll be stepping off from the parking lot at around 3:30AM.

Vnthali,
My only advice as to parking is this leave nothing of
value in plain sight
. Many break-ins occur at both of the lots.
Tends to be the partying types who've got nothing better to
do. With all the cut backs San Bernardino County Sheriff only
has one unit on that side of the mountain. Cell phone service
is normally a bust too. Just a word of advice now........ GO Have
A Blast!
Be Prepared/See ya at the Top.

It was last Tuesday and I think we were the only two people on the trail. My climbing partner and I are calling this our route recon of the Vivian Creek Trail. While we didn't make the summit (got up to High Creek) before our pre-established turn-around time, we had a great time. I'm looking forward to giving this trail another try in the near future. Everything I have read about this trail talks about the first set of swtichbacks being one of the most difficult parts of the trail. I thought it was easy going up this part of the route. The problem for me was when we came back down this section (I thought they added a few more switchbacks). The only concern I had was the carload of America's Most Wanted types who showed up as we were arriving back at the parking lot.
