Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone may be interested in trekking Nepal this year or in 2011?

I've been to Katmandu, Dhulikel, Lukla, Namche Bazzar and a few other places along the way and i'm interested in meeting some folks that would want to organize a group to go. Lodging is very reasonable, flights are not bad depending on how good your search skills are, the people are nice and the views are second to none. I'm planning on hiking to Everest Base Camp from Lukla airport and it's about a two week trek through Sagarmantha National Park. I have trekking maps, a guide book and the experience of being there in the past (2003). It was a lot of fun, but it would be better with like minded friends.

I'm happy to talk about this possibility and potentially plan something with those that are interested.

I have always wanted to go to Nepal and I would love to trek to Base Camp, but i don't want to stop there. I have dreamed of walking across a ladder in the Khumbu Icefalls for the last 33 years. From what i understand you cannot go further than BC & into the Khumbu without being part of a professionally guided trek. This week i have been looking at IMG and Alpine Ascents trips to Camp 1 which include the Khumbu but i am not sure i can justify spending the money for a professionally guided trip right now.

So short story long, i would be interested in talking about your plan.

I also think it would be great to go to Khumbu glacier, but for simplicity purposes this time around, I think a good ol trek through the mountains would be fantastic. I have a friend who is a local trekking guide and if someone is set on a more extreme version, I can help point them in a direction that would lead to 20k+ of Island and Mera peaks.

I'd be very happy with an arrival at base camp which is 5340 meters or so.

I was planning on trying to go this year. The route I was looking at is here: http://www.allnepal.com/nepal/everest_gokyo.php. The guide came highly recommended by a friend who has been to Nepal numerous times. Hopefully October. Getting close to where I need to make a commitment. I'm also interested in the discussion

My friend in Nepal works as a very experienced trekking guide for this company and I would use his input/ feedback while planning a trip to the Himalayas - possibly even his services if desired. From my understanding, a base camp hike is pretty straight forward though. The biggest challenge would be not ascending too fast and September/ October does seem to be the best time of year to do this because it's after the monsoon season.

In 2011, there are going to be some great festivals and celebrations and I'm going to begin organizing annual trekking/ climbing trips into the Himalayas for those that are interested. Anyway - September & October is a ways off and there is plenty of time to satisfy one's curiosity between now and then.

Simply put: I'm looking for a few adventurous and easygoing trekkers to join me on a trip to Nepal in the range of September/ October 2010 and/or the same time in 2011.

To tell you a bit about me: I'm a 34 year old local to Palm Springs that enjoys the outdoors. I've been trekking in Nepal before in 2003 during a solo adventure trip which included a dual sport ride to the Chinese border and that was on the tails of a four month backpacking trip through Scotland, the inner and outer Hebrides, and Northumbria in England. I have experience hiking and backpacking in almost all of the Southwestern and Northwestern National Parks and a lot of the National Forests and State Parks. This last summer, I went on a five week trip through Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier NP, Moab, Canyonlands, Redwoods, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and more. I've worked in eco-tourism here in Palm Springs as a hiking guide and I'm familiar with Joshua Tree, White Water Preserve, and the San Jacinto Mountains and more. I also have experience as staff for Cal State San Bernardino's Outdoor Club. I'm a responsible member of the Sierra Club, Edmund C. Jeager's Palaver Group and I'm a volunteer for the USO in Palm Springs.

I know some people are skittish when meeting new faces and this is my meager attempt at breaking the ice. I hope that some of you would (one day) join me on either a Nepal trek, or several other amazing journeys locally through Coachella Valley, California, and the western states.
