Dave G - Black bears usually are more afraid of us than we are of them. I was just hoping not to run into Mama and baby bear. The bears were all out enjoying the day. Lots of them!

Hvydrt - those were taken on the way to Alta Peak in Sequoia N.P. Saturday, too much snow, I lost the trail about 1.5 miles to the summit. Sunday, I slept in, got too late of a start and so reached my turn around time just short again....traveilng solo without GPS and not having been on that trail before, I have to err on the side of caution

Forgive my lack of knowledge on this one but that's the second time I've seen the term SEKI and I know it has something to do with Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park's but what's it really mean? I'm guessing that it means something to do with South Entrance to Kings Canyon? or something like that, just a guess?

Thanks in advance for an explanation. :D

I think it's just the first two letters of each word.

Zip has it right--it's a kinda sorta acronym: SEquoia & KIngs Canyon National Parks. But I always think of them as PITA, because you always have to pick up your wilderness permit in person (no night box) in order that they can give you an "informational" lecture each time!

Nice pic of that bear track Blooty! I'm with you, bears have never bothered me and don't seem inclined to. I recently saw tracks on a trail right behind my house of a mama bear and some little tiny tracks of a baby bear. While I don't want to get in trouble with mama bear, I would love to have seen the baby bear - the tracks were only a couple of inches across, so it must have been a tiny little thing, I'm guessing only 20 lbs or so. Would have been a great experience as long as mama didn't feel inclined to teach me proper observing distance...
