Hey, Bill -- it's a toll road! At $50 toll per hiker times an average of 20 hikers per day year round, you'll make that up in no time. Then it's pure profit. :D

I'm sure the contractor was happy to get the job though!

9 miles, 4500 gain. Henninger flats is 2.7 miles and it's 6.3 the rest. It will be fun to go on that road from pine again. Before the landslide took out the part just past the bridge I used to ride a mountain bike up there in the summers. my best time up from the gate at pine to the gate at the end is 1:48. My spy tells me his is 1:30! the fun part is doing it w/o touching your foot down. I've done it twice! it's not easy. lots of rocks half way past henninger flats.
map
The steepest part of the road is at "B". (maybe the very end is steeper.)
We named it "sir steepy". It's funny because after hiking all these really steep trails the past two years that part is a joke!
so you back your back tire up against the gate at pine and that's where you start your time. and ends when your front tire gets even with that white pipe gate at the top!
will you be able to handle sir steepy?!
oh yeah, then you get to ride down!!!!!! sooooooo much fun!!!!!!!!!!
