oh you know its coming.

i think people go from little san bernadino to birch more commonly; going up Galena and across to little san bernardino is supposed to be more rough and challenging. and add in Allen

I've done both ends (Galena and Allen), but not the middle. When the weather cools down in the fall I'm going to go from Little San Gorgonio to Allen. Anyway, yes people do traverse it but not too many for various reasons.

how hard / dangerous is Galena? is rockfall a big problem? I'm just wondering how many people I should limit a hike up there to for whenever I do that.

so...Allen to Birch...not possible unless I get permission from someone to cross the area in between the two? Anyone know how to get permission for this?

Galena is not dangerous from the back (East side) but is from the side that faces Forest Falls. It is very steep scree.

I would recommend hard hats for the face. The scree was pretty easy to disturb and big pieces began tumbling last time I was up there. Would not take anyone inexperienced.

I second that. It's not scary, just unpleasant, but you have to be careful not to send rocks down on those below.

Have you thought about accessing it from VC? Go up Vivian, then turn right from anywhere near the peak and follow the ridgeline so that you're at the top of the MCJO without having to battle the scree? I've considered it, but the mileage would be 30 or more on a round trip.

I'm trying to find an access route from the other end (Yucaipa) where I live. I've got some possible leads, but will probably have to bushwhack to get around problem areas. I'll post if I can find/make a good approach.
