Cy: Thanks for checking out my pictures - it was so beautiful out there yesterday, so I just had to check out the photos as soon as I got home. That route up Dade has been on my list for a while, but it has to be timed right to have good conditions in the couloir. The conditions were pretty good in the Hourglass Couloir yesterday - firm snow in the morning that softened up good as the day went on. Pretty soon the couloir will be done for the season as it'll turn into a combination of steep loose sand and scree and hard ice - not something I'd want to deal with in a steep couloir.

Pic 15 brings back memories for me - I backpacked up to Lake Italy with my dad when I was 16. Long time ago.

Walt: There are some good classes out there - do it because there's no better time to enjoy the Sierra than in the spring/early summer once the danger of avalanches subsides and the snow is nicely consolidated.

Zip: Actually, going up the Couloir wasn't bad because the snow was still fairly hard and the snow cups were minimal; so it was just a matter of cramponing up a fairly smooth surface. Later in the day it would have been post-hole hell trying to go up. Above the couloir it was tougher going when I had to cross the snow because it wasn't consolidated.

Tinaballina: It is really nice in the Sierra - we're lucky to live close to such a beautiful area.
