Well, as I am sure you all know, it is getting hot quick... Anyways, my b-day is coming up in a couple of weeks and I want to camp out by a lake or something..
Does anyone know of anywhere remotely local to Riverside where you can swim and camp, but not have to be next to power boats (lake silverwood, elsinore) I kind of just want to be in the wilderr for my b-day..

One choice

I've never been to the "Deep Creek Hot Springs" but heard that this is the best time of year to go.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Creek_Hot_Springs_(California) copy and paste this into your web browser.
Or just do a "Google Search" on that subject and you will be able to find it.

Not all the water back in that canyon is bubbling hot though, I've passed by it on the PCT and there's quite a few places to get some solitude besides the Hot Springs. :) Enjoy your birthday

Sounds like fun, maybe a little polluted? Has anyone been there firsthand or know anyone that has?

Hurkey Creek, maybe?

I think any lake would be a bit too cold to swim in yet.

If you want to camp near a lake, you might try Hurkey Creek. It's near Lake Hemet. You can fish there and they don't allow powerboats.

It's a decent campground (although I loathe car camping) and there are nice trails nearby.

Well, as for the cold, I am hoping for a blazing hot day.. Car camping is not on the top of my list of things to do either, but I want to have some people actually show up. (backpacking 5-10 miles will scare off a few of my friends)

I have never been to Hurkey Creek, but I have heard good things about it. I went to Lytle Creek this week and boy is it trashed. There is trash piled on trash, graffiti on top of graffiti. It is really sad to see how little respect some people have. Bonita Falls is beautiful, but covered in graffiti. I am thinking about doing a short TR of Lytle Creek and Applewhite campground if anyone is interested.
