Baldy Bowl 3-8-09

Postby Dave G » Mon Mar 09, 2009 8:56 am

When my climbing buddy Norris told me he'd never hiked Baldy, I was like, "Dude, you've climbed epic mountains whose names I can't even pronounce--this can't be true!" :o But true it was, so knowing full well the risks I took it upon myself to guide him up this treacherous peak. It was a perfect day until a "whiteout" interupted our glissading plans. But we got to meet Taco from the San Gabriel board and that was cool. Pix are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21042415@N ... 003205612/

thanx for the TR. looked like a fun day! amazing how conditions can change so rapidly. now Norris can cross-off the highest peak in L.A. county from his international list!

i spent heavy change to woosh and schuss an 11,000 ft peak over the weekend. i had a great time but always look forward to my next adventure with you.

glad to see Taco is back in the mountains where he belongs!

Nice pics, Dave.

I was up there the day before (Saturday). The clouds rolled in about 1PM (I'd gotten a late start) but fortunately the upper 1K' was in the clear. The cloud bank stopped at the San Gabriel ridge, so views to the north were unobstructed. It made getting back to the Ski Hut a bit tricky, but was straightforward after that.
