Joe: It was a pleasure meeting you and your group out on Monrovia Saturday - you were all in such good moods even after ascending that hot and brushy ridge. When I uploaded my GPS track to TOPO the elevation profile was over 7000 feet gain, but it wasn't that much. My GPS said about 4700' gain with close to 17 miles - that's probably closer to reality. Anyway, it looks like your group cut off onto the trail that I saw starting along the road in a couple of places. Did that trail add much elevation gain/loss to the hike?

The trail did not have a lot of gain, but looks like about 200 ft.
And I'm not sure which way you got back to your car, but if you followed the street all the way down to Ridgeside, and then back up, that adds 200 ft gain!
