Open Gate at Barcroft - White Mountain Research Ctr-8/3/08

If you're interested in climbing White Mountain (a 14'er), they'll be an open gate event at Barcroft this Sunday, August 31st. This will save a couple of miles or more of road walk.

If you're not familiar with Barcroft Lab - it's at the end of the unpaved (and at times rough) road past the Bristlecone Pine VC west of Big Pine. The drive from the main highway to the trail head takes longer than what might appear based on the map. I give myself as much as 1-2 hours, depending on when they last graded the road. The 'regular' trailhead is at the locked gate, and Barcroft is higher up the road.
