ALSO:

looks like a lobe has made it nearly to summit of ole Greyback, not much to burn up there.
wind-driven fire got away from them in the North East yesterday.
It got onto Bighorn ridge for sure after crossing North Fork
today ... we'll see
looks better over near Bighorn area.

looks like it's almost gotten to the Sawtooth/Millard Complex fire of 2006 on the entire perimeter,
as would be expected.

Many thanks to Jim and Pi for their info and updates, and endless thanks to all those involved in battling this blaze.

We *will* get some rain to help put an end to this.

and pi, sorry about the un-neighborly furryfolk.
maybe facilitate a transfer?:

kidding aside, let us prepare for the changes we face. Post-fire I hope the USFS will see to a phased-in reopening of the wilderness vs. a global long-term closure. History tempers optimism for that.

kind regards,

It's a sad day for San Gorgonio Wilderness lovers. The Lake Fire burned up the east flanks of San Gorgonio Mountain up to and past the Sky High Trail. It may reach all the way to the krummholz at the very summit later today. Bighorn Mountain's east flank has also burned up to somewhere around 10,000 feet elevation. The entire San Gorgonio Wilderness and the PCT to the east is closed until 01 Oct 2015 per Forest Order.

Hiking Jim -

It is a terrible day indeed. The burning of this wilderness and the one in the San Jacintos is devastating.

Thank you for your reports here and at your blog.

Erwin Lake, and Lake Baldwin advance noticed to prepare for

Postby Pitownpi » Thu Jun 25, 2015 9:31 am

"The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department has issued a message in order to give residents in the areas of Lake Williams, Erwin Lake, and Lake Baldwin advance noticed to prepare for evacuation, in the event it becomes necessary. As of 8:00 am today the Lake Fire is approximately 1.5 miles east of the first trigger point that affects Lake Williams. If the Lake Fire reaches the pre-designated trigger points, residents in these areas will be notified to evacuate. Residents in the affected areas, particularly those with live stock that may need to be moved, are encouraged to make arrangements now for relocation of their animals."

Looking up from Palm Springs this afternoon the fire is heading to SG summit from the east. Looks like it may take the south face of the mtn as well.

30,000+ ac

Too bad that the fire area will be closed for a couple+ years, but assuming same intensities as the Mountain Fire, it's probably not actually devastating to the forest itself.
