Looks like a great trip! You have been training all year for this, you are in top shape girl. Just watch for those rivers, they were still running pretty good a couple of weeks ago.

Missed you on San G on Friday... I understand, that work thing gets in the way all of the time. Why does Vivian Creek always seem like 8 miles up and about 20 milies down...?

As of 7/27, the 2011 snow pack is well above normal with the average snowline at 10,000 feet elevation. Winter travel skills and equipment are necessary. Spring thawing conditions can result in avalanche danger and stream flows will be very high and swift. Many trails may not be snow-free until mid to late July, and mountain passes not until late July to early August. Trails are being reported as having a large amount of debris and damage.

I just visited Ellen's Spot page, and I see she is in Yosemite Valley. What I can't figure out is what is Mt. Whitney doing in the middle of Yosemite Valley?! There's something funny with the map! Maybe they moved Mt. Whitney up there so that Ellen won't have to cross all those passes and rivers to get there.

You're right Sally... according the Ellen's Spot tracking map, Mount Whitney is located on the north shore of the Merced River, right across the valley from Yosemite Village. Then again west of Lone Pine. Weird, huh?

Looks like she's closing in on Mt. Lyell today.

It doesn't look like she's heading for Donohue Pass per the Spot track. I wonder if she'd doing side-trip or if the Spot Track isn't accurate.

I agree, but hopefully she can get down that ridge and head northeast and pick it up again.

Looks like she had a good long day. She covered some ground and made it to Thousand Island Lake, a beautiful spot. Her plan indicated Garnet Lake, but I am guessing that is without the detour.
