I wasn't clear enough. There were two distinct groups -- a faster group and a slower group. The groups did not start at the same time, nor were they marching in formation up the trail.

Agree the lecture was absurd.

No where it is specified on a wilderness permit that I have to stop and listen to a lecture by someone who fails to produce proper identification.

Then he was totally out of line. The guy seems to have a highly inflated sense of who he is.
