Baldy Weather Report?

Postby matthest » Thu Oct 10, 2013 2:04 pm

Anyone know what the weather will be like up there this weekend? It says in the 70's online but I checked the webcam and it also looks like there's snow...

Hoping to summit on Saturday during the day, hopefully we won't need gear.

The point forecast is for a high of 53. I'd say that's pretty consistent with what I've been seeing in real life the last few days.

The higher you go, the more snow there will be. The summit is typically bare. Certain spots on the backbone trail tend to hold snow as do certain spots on the ridge if you go via the ski hut.

You certainly won't need snow shoes. I doubt you'd need crampons. Micro spikes might be really darned handy though.

My opinions. Hopefully others will chime in.

Thanks! That's a relief after seeing some snow on the cam. That gets me pumped for Saturday!

Note that I haven't been up there since the storm. This is my best guess based on experience and the weather forecast. As always, be prepared to turn back if things get dicey.

Yeah definitely. Based on the link you posted though, it looks like it'll be clear skies from here on out, so I'll cross my fingers it stays that way.
