Whitewater River Trail, Palm Springs to the Salton Sea

Postby HikerBlatt » Sat Mar 03, 2012 9:05 pm

Who says the Whitewater River Trail is yet to be built? Today Gary and I proved that it already exists. We rode the Whitewater River Channel from Vista Chino Dr. in Palm Springs to the Salton Sea in Mecca: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/154612610. The only thing that keeps the trail from being in use today is access denied by country clubs and the CVWD. We decided to ride it anyway: started at an elevation of 453 feet above sea level and 43.84 miles later we were at 227 feet below sea level at the edge of the salty lake. We believe we are the first to ride the channel, meaning we hold the record time of 7:23:39. Beat that! Any takers?
