Hi HikerBlatt,

I don't think Ellen has a Backpacker's Cache, so I'll try to answer your question. The Bearikade is 10 1/2" tall X 9" diameter. The Backpacker's Cache is 12" tall X 8 1/4" diameter at the ends (It is barrel shaped and is about 9" diameter around the middle.) The walls of the Bearikade are thinner than the walls of the Cache, so the capacity is greater in the Bearikade.

The opening of the Bearikade is 8 1/2" where as it is only 5 3/4" on the Cache, making it much easier to get food in and out of the Bearikade.

The only thing I like better about the Cache is that it packs in my backpack easier because it is more slender. Other than that, I prefer my Bearikade in all other ways, especially the fact that it is lighter.

Garcia's pretty much suck (it's what I've got) That little opening makes it hard to pack and even harder to see what's inside. Danged heavy too.

I rented a Bearikade for my 2009 Sequoia trip. It was wonderful compared to the Garcia.

We own a BV500 as well as the Garcia. The BV500 is much more user friendly, however we are planning on upgrading to a Bearikade weekender.
