Current situation: The Momyer Fire began May 8, 2011 at approximately 10:30 a.m., and is burning in the San Gorgonio Wilderness in steep, rugged terrain. The fire is burning in a north/north east direction, west of Alger Creek and north of the Momyer Trail. Fire activity has slowed, with creeping and smoldering in ground fuels. Firefighters have made good progress in line construction and mop up assisted by helicopter water drops. Crews will continue line construction on both the main fire and spot fires and re-open an old helispot for easier access to the fire.

Closures and road status: The Momyer and Vivian Creek Trails are closed until further notice.
