Fire location: San Gorgonio Wilderness, west of Alger Creek and north of the Momyer Trail, on the Front Country Ranger District of the San Bernardino National Forest

Date/time started: May 8, 2011, 10:30am Total acres burned: approx. 150

Percent contained: 60% Fireline to be constructed: unknown

Expected containment: May 17, 2011 Expected control: not determined

Suppression costs to date: unknown Structures damaged/destroyed: 0

Cause: Under Investigation Injuries: 1

Total Personnel: 180

Terrain/vegetation/difficulties: Extremely steep and rocky terrain; heavy fuels (timber); extreme bug kill/drought kill area
Current situation: The Momyer Fire began May 8, 2011 at approximately 10:30 a.m., and is burning in the San Gorgonio Wilderness in steep, rugged terrain. The fire is burning in a north/north east direction, west of Alger Creek and north of the Momyer Trail. Fire activity has slowed, with creeping and smoldering in ground fuels. Firefighters have made good progress in line construction and mop up assisted by helicopter water drops. Crews will continue line construction on both the main fire and spot fires and re-open an old helispot for easier access to the fire.

Evacuations: None

Closures and road status: The Momyer and Vivian Creek Trails are closed until further notice.

By the way, Where did you get that map HJ? That's pretty cool!

The map is from the USFS. At last check Momyer and Vivian were still closed.

Up until recently the SGWA Trail Conditions listed the trail as "CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE". Now I don't see that message. Does it mean the trail is open?
