Headed up with Lance at about 6:15 last Sun. The trail was mostly covered with snow and the footing was uneven. Headed directly up the ridge to the east of Limber Pine. We scrambled around some rocks and up through snow covered manzanita, then stayed pretty much on the middle of the ridge. This brought us out on the false peak to the west of West San Bernardino Peak at 11:30. The snow on the ridge was a real mixed bag -- both icy (crampons barely left a mark) and 6 to 8 inch powder. Started snowing on the way down at about 8.5 K. Snow had softened, which made descent harder the on flat sections near Manzanita flats but easier dropping down the switchbacks on the ridge to the trailhead. It started to rain about 6.5 K. We reached car at 3:40 and grabbed an excellent cheesburger and omelet at the Oaks before driving home in the rain.
Miles of smiles,
Ellen
