Gorgonio - Vivian Creek trail 2 Jan 2010

Postby Blooty » Mon Jan 04, 2010 11:15 am

Hiked up Vivian Creek Saturday - really pretty day. There were a lot of finches and other birdies singing in the trees. The trail is very icy in places and will only be getting worse until there is more snow. some photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29308219@N06/sets/72157623001115315/

First time I've ever seen a ranger there - checking permits. I did not make the summit...I was moving like a snail. Two hikers did, though. I bet it was nice up there. Trailhead parking lot was crazy with a lot of kids/families.

Happy New Year!

Hi Blooty, a few of us went up to about 10k ft via vivian yesterday too. it was icy/snowy and conditions were different with every step, new experience which made for a good learning lesson. we got a late start and summiting would have taken another two hours so we opted to head back. Great day on the mountain.

Nice to hear about folks out on the mountain. I may give San G a try this coming weekend with a pre-dawn start. I'll head up the North Side if I have the energy and get any purchase with my crampons.

I'm hoping for nice consolidated snow that I can just float along on top of. Based on what I've seen on Baldy and San Jacinto the last couple of weeks, I might just get that as long as I don't mind putting up with the ice too.
