Don't fear it, become familiar with it!

Southern California and far-away places. Hiking, wildlife, cycling etc.

Don't fear it, become familiar with it!

Just a suggestion, but it seems to me there's a lot of folks on this BB who want to run/hike the local trails, but don't want the inconveinience of all those scary snakes, big bears, stealthy pumas, velvety ants, stickery vegitation, buzzing insects, and creepy bats (yes, there are bats flying around out there at night!). Best way to deal with it is to become familiar with it. May I suggest you turn off the GPS, the cell phone, the cable TV, and the internet, stop adding more gadgets that promise you protection or give you a false sense of security, and take some time to read (or re-read) this classic:

http://www.amazon.com/Island-Called-Cal ... 28&sr=1-1#

The only thing it doesn't cover (because it can't) is how to deal with all those scary, irrational homo sapiens running around out there (and the Fight On's, too  ).

Cheers
