Hiking part of the JMT

Postby Ellen » Wed Jul 29, 2009 6:08 pm

Howdy All :)

On Sunday, I'm backpacking part of the John Muir Trail with two friends. We leave from Mammoth and come out at Independence. I haven't backpacked in three years, so it will be challenging. Should be back home around August 17. We wanted to do the entire JMT but ran into permit problems.

I'll miss you all, but will consol myself with being surrounded by the high Sierras 8) My friends have backpacked most of the JMT in bits and pieces and are very experienced. I've only been on the Whitney section.

I'm looking forward to doing the whole JMT in the next year or so. This will be an excellent opportunity to familarize myself with the strategic parts of the trip (shipping food, etc.)

Bless you all and stay safe.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Ellen, you go have a great time, please post pictures and a Trip report when you get back. It's been two years since I've been in that area and miss it.

You be safe as well, enjoy the time with your friends.

Howdy Lilbitmo,

Thanks -- I'll definately take lots of pictures and write up a trip report 8)

I would also love to hike with you and other OCHC folks before the year's end. I'd like to climb Jepson in the winter from Dry Lake with Team Hypoxia (Arthur, Jeff et al) or another group.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Hey Ellen,

I did that exact same route years ago except I went in at Onion Valley and came out at Mammoth. You are going to have the time of your life. The whole trail is totally amazing. Be safe and enjoy.
