Yes this is a terrible tragedy, my sympathy goes out to his friends and family.

I don't like posting critical comments - however, I saw enough literature and whatnot before last weekend commenting on how slick the granite at the cables has become, due to the 50,000 hikers that go up it each year. I saw the throngs of people last fall, late in the day, and won't go into further commentary on what I saw among them. Imagine - there were a minimum of 30 people up there in obvious thunderstorm conditions last weekend when that man slipped.

I will be fortunate enough to be backpacking Yosemite in a couple of weeks - I won't be going near half dome's cables again. :(
