You recognize other hiking BB citizens on the trail by .... their Avatar?

Is there some subtle visible mark that citizens of hiking bulletin boards could use to identify themselves to like-minded people on trails? Perhaps a specific color of ribbon tied to one's backpack?

Recognising other hiking bb citizens

The only sure way is a tee shirt or cap with the Buletin board name, logo or Avatar. Summitpost has a tee shirt with its name,

you could start a new thread ------
"show yourself"

then you could put some faces behind the ID's - then it would be fun to spot people on the trails.

Tom! I'd recognize you in a second! :D

I get recognized sometimes because I hike with my son. I have had strangers say things like "you must be Alan because one doesn't see that many kids on top of Iron Mountain" (or doing Cactus to Clouds, etc.). This happened more often when Eric was younger. At 18, he's headed for "old man of the mountains" status. :)

I like the idea of a T-shirt (please make it Coolmax or something). I'm not sure about the logo, though, because there are so many overlapping message boards. I suppose "Friend of Crystal" would be too much of an inside joke. Maybe "Friend of Cy" and a picture of the man himself?

Maybe we need a T shirt that says "Southern California 'Cy'-ber space hiker" with a photo of Cy on it?

Seriously, we could create a logo of some sort that says "Southern California Mountain Forums" (a nice and generic name so it could include all the various forums). The logo could be put on a hat, shirt, or what have you. It wouldn't be hard to set up. I've Cafe Press before with a church group that I'm part of called BRICK. See http://www.CafePress.Com/BRICKclass only mentally substitute a "Southern California Mountain Forums" logo for the BRICK logo shown.

You'll notice that (IIRC) none of the products on Cafe Press are wicking material. However, the Sierra Club WTC course does have several options in the wicking department, see http://www.nhallmark.com/WTC/shirts.html. I'm sure we could set something up if we came up with a good logo.

Yeah Alan -
I would recognize you too. But you would be hard pressed to catch me that far south twice in the same year. Can you say Eastern Sierras - I love my backyard.

Thanks Alan and Jim but No. You dont want my homely face advertised. I never wanted to be in anyone's face. I am on a dozen different bulletin boards so that would not help. Maybe John Muir's or Perry's picture would be what you want, or maybe Tina or Ellen. :)
