Thanks, Hikeup - didn't mean to be obstuse, Jim.

Another comment re: Dave Page - they give good customer service. For example - when they get your boots you'll get an email confirming their arrival and expected repair time. You'll get another when they're repaired and back in the UPS.

Laura - As I pointed out before, the Vibram soles Page uses wears longer than the factory, at least on my Raichle's. Asolo's are too narrow for me, so I don't know what they use - for example, Salomon uses their own proprietary Contragrip soles. One would think a Vibram sole would be a Vibram sole, if you know what I mean, but the one's Page uses seem to be a bit thicker than those from the factory.

Kevin, Dave Page told me that same stuff, confirm receipt and return info. Said about ten days in the shop. Better soles huh? Sounds great to me. Does anybody have these Montrail Torre boots and another pair of different boots? I want to buy a second pair of a different brand and want to know if there is a big difference in quality with a more expensive shoe. Like the one that simonov showed with the soles sticking out the side. How do they feel hiking compared to the Torre style. Thanks for any info. FIGHT ON

A long time ago, I used to resole my climbing shoes using the 5-10 kit. Lots of work but if you didn't have the cash or wanted the latest "sticky" rubber then that was the way to go. The kit used a tube of glue called "Barge" cement that you can by in many stores...works great. I had an occasion to use it in the field once when the entire heal section of my boot started flopping around with each step. Glued up nicely over night.

Some might be wondering "why" I was carrying a tube of glue in my pack. Besides contributing to my grossly overweight pack, the team I was on at the time required us to carry some type of fire starter and I looked into fire starters that I could either eat, get light from, or some other multi-purpose. The Barge glue made a good fire starter and a glue for torn things and as it turned out, my boot. I truly believe the sole would have totally separated in the field if it were not for the glue cause the couple of feet of duct tape I was using till camp was not going to last.

ps easy to find but Dave Page's web site is http://www.davepagecobbler.com ...does great work.

RickM, did you look into a glue that also doubled as a gu? Library type paste that could function as both firestarter, sole-sticker, and emergency carbs? :)

I think HikeUp's sad-shoe tale has a larger moral...the throwaway society and our increasing reliance on artifical materials which are difficult to repair. Here in PS there is only one cobbler, and he seemed absolutely astounded by the idea of resoling anything. It seems to be a dying art form, but hopefully a few hardy souls/soles will keep it alive.

I realized a little while ago I do have a photo of my famous 25-year-old boots:

That's me on the right, and those are the boots in question. You can zoom in by clicking the image.

Hey Fight On:
I said of your Santa Paula Peak Trail post picture
Gee, and I thought we saw millions of flowers (and poppys) on the mountain sides above Indian Wells (4,000') yesterday. The Santa Paula Pk Trail really kicks butt!

That is an awesome pic of poppies and lupines.............
no argument from me! :)

I KNOW I KNOW. I WAS JUST RUBBIN IT IN. :lol: Those flowers are pretty cool. As far as that Santa Paula hike goes. My sister and I went last weekend and it was drying up. She got a tick. Don't go there.

Hey Fight On, how are you able to get such a large pic as your AVATAR? It rejects anything over 300 pixels when I try to load something...need to make things bigger so you can see those little yellow and white dots on my pic are in fact, flowers.

Too many cool places have ticks...that's what your hiking companion is for :lol: and I'll pass on library paste c23 :shock:

RickM. I did it from Flickr.com. I followed Simonov's advice below. Except don't put the brackets on the image for the Avatar. Thats funny. I thought you were some expert on computers. I know almost nothing about computers especially this image posting process. I just got lucky and figured it out. But you know something? I think I figured out why others do not have big ones. I think it squishes not only your post over to the right but all the others posts as well. I am changing it back to a smaller one. Don't want to ruffle anyones feathers. That's funny about bringing a friend for the ticks. I wonder if there has been a topic about ticks? I told her to get a burnt match and stick it on its butt and it would remove its head. It worked but after looking up on line about ticks it says that that method can cause the tick to spit out more of its fluid inside your body. Along with possible lime disease. So some say use tweezers close to the skin on the head and some say even that is a bad method too. I found this thing called Tick Twister. Are you familiar with it? Seems like it would twist the head right off. What is the best method? Also what does library c23 mean?

1. Go to the photo page.

2. Click on "All sizes."

3. Select the Medium photo size.

4. Now you have some choices. The easiest way is to copy and paste the URL near the bottom in the box, and bracket it with img tags:

Code:
[img]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/367544491_b662995a52.jpg[/img]

That gives you something like this:

But if you want to link your photo back to the Flickr photo page so people can click on it and see a higher resolution view if they want, it gets more complicated. You have to use both url and img tags, and use the URLs in the first box near the bottom, which looks like this:

Code:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonov/367544491/"
title="The Machine by simonov, on Flickr"><img
src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/367544491_b662995a52.jpg"
width="500" height="375" alt="The Machine" /></a>

You would edit that mess so it looks like this:

Code:
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonov/367544491/]
[img]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/367544491_b662995a52.jpg[/img][/url]

(except it has to be all on one line)

Resulting in something like this (click on the photo to be taken to the Flickr photo page):

Experiment using the preview button on the Post a Reply screen.

5. Alternatively, you could just put all the photos from your hike into a group, click on the group icon, then copy the group URL from your address bar and paste it here, like this:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonov/se ... 235357651/
