I think you have to have the "Always allow BBCode" option set to yes in your profile settings. Or at least turn on BBCode for the post for which you want to use quoting.

That must have been it! Thanks to all for the advice! (I have no idea what BBCode is, but I turned it on and now it works.)

Yeah. Works for me too and I have no clue as to what it is. Maybe some kind of code of ethics for BB Gun owners - Red Ryder to the rescue or some such nonsense.
